DBtune is an innovative B2B software startup based in the vibrant Malmö, Sweden, a short train ride away from Copenhagen, Lund and Helsingborg. Since our founding in 2020, our dedicated team of engineers and Ph.D. researchers has been on a mission to revolutionize cloud and database management systems using Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.

DBtune's core technology is a fully automated service designed to optimize databases. Our optimizer, based on machine learning, tailors each optimization to the specific customer workload and hardware in use. This approach leads to improved key performance indicators, making the process of database tuning more efficient and scalable across hundreds of instances. We make databases twice as fast, save massive infrastructure costs, and reduce the environmental footprint of data management.

We have garnered support from institutional and angel investors in the EU and the US, along with pre-seed funding from the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation (KAW). With a growing customer base, DBtune is poised to expand its influence even further, scaling our operations to bring AI-driven database optimization to a broader audience. In the last two years we have set up the distribution channel to reach and optimize 10% of the world PostgreSQL databases within a few years.

Job overview

DBtune is seeking an accomplished software engineer with a strong background in building complex software solutions. As a Chief Technology Officer / Tech Lead at DBtune, you will play a pivotal role in transforming our ML engine into a more scalable and robust SaaS solution. Working closely with our existing development team, you will be responsible for building the software infrastructure of the DBtune product, with a strong focus on the back-end and overseeing the front-end development. This is a hands-on role that requires writing software and contributing directly to the codebase. Additionally, you will lead the effort to streamline our internal deployment processes, maintain our cloud-based services for high availability, and implement robust monitoring and alerting systems. Your expertise will drive the creation of a cutting-edge platform hosted on AWS, catering to the needs of our growing customer base.

The position title is flexible (Chief Technology Officer or Tech Lead) and depends on experience. While the Tech Lead will naturally evolve into the CTO role over time, we are open to hiring a CTO directly, depending on the seniority of the candidate. You will report to the CEO.

This role provides a unique platform to contribute to our ongoing mission of revolutionizing cloud and database systems.

Key responsibilities

• Design and build the software infrastructure of the database optimization product in collaboration with the development team.
• Help build, mentor and grow a team of passionate deep tech specialists.
• Apply critical thinking in feature development and the product roadmap.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software development experience.
• Strong software architecture skills for cloud-based systems.
• Proficiency in various cloud providers, back-end development (we use Python, TypeScript, Golang), and basic front-end skills (e.g., React, TailwindCSS).
• Experience with API design (REST or GraphQL), databases, and SQL.
• Knowledge of infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform, Pulumi), CI/CD tools (e.g., GitHub Actions), and testing.
• Good understanding of container technologies (e.g., Docker).
• A proven history of delivering high-quality work on stringent timelines.
• Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Oral and written proficiency in English.

Additional merits

• Degree in Computer Science or related field.
• Experience in PostgreSQL.
• Familiarity with infrastructure monitoring tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog).
• Experience with other cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, Google Cloud).
• Some knowledge of UX design (e.g., Figma) and website design principles.
• Previous experience in startups or other fast-paced environments.
